Reporting line: Director

Purpose: Transition Coach/Trainer will be responsible for walking alongside CCIs trying to transition from institutional care to family-based care in line with Care Reform Strategy and Kenya Children’s Act 2022.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

1. Building relationships with key stakeholders.

2. Walking side-by-side with leaders of CCIs in order to understand their struggles and be able to assist them.

3. Leading trainings for CCIs interested in transitioning to family-based care (curriculum will be provided, but the ideal candidate will understand major issues around care reform and be a dynamic trainer.)

4. Maintain and regularly update a directory with new organizations and changes to previously entered organization's listing, such names and contact information, type of organization and transition status.

5. Maintain consistent contact with all organizations who are currently in the process of being supported through the transition, or have reached out to request assistance.

6. Coaching and mentoring via phone, WhatsApp, and email to organizations being supported through the transition process.

7. Issue upon request of the Director and Executive Directors, monthly status reports and updates.

 

Minimum requirements and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required

  • Strong oral communication and presentation skills: Ability to facilitate meetings, present reports, and think on your feet in meetings

  • Strong client relations skills: Ability to pick up on different organizational cultures and work with a wide range of different types of nonprofit leadership, including boards

  • A minimum of five years experience (depending on position rank) of relevant work experience in the nonprofit or corporate sector. Previous experience with consulting and/or project management required. Experience working in diverse communities and across social, economic and cultural differences is strongly preferred.

  • Thorough understanding and experience about Kenya Government’s strategies, policies, guidelines, plans on Care Reform, including Childrens Act 2022 and National Care Reform Strategy.

Purpose: Night House Parent will be responsible for the protection and care of children at Shelter Yetu during the night.

1. Know the whereabouts of the children at all times.

2. Serve as the focal point for interaction with the children.

3. Insure the children are properly dressed and on time for school and other activities and that the children properly care for and maintain their clothing and foot wear.

4. Maintain close watch on the health and physical well being of every child and immediately report any health concern or medical need to the Nurse.

5. Insure that each child is safe and secure and is not being abused, threatened or bullied by any of the other children.

6. Escort children whenever they leave the dormitories after 8:30 PM and before 6:30 AM.

7. Diligently maintain parental watch and concern over each child, insuring children are not left unsupervised at any time.

8. Carefully instruct the children in person hygiene, insuring the children bathe regularly, brush their teeth, etc.

9. Be attentive to each child’s emotional and spiritual needs, providing counsel, encouragement, and support.

Purpose

To ensure the educational success and assist in the rehabilitation of street-connected children.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  1. Administer academic assessments to all incoming street-connected students to assess their level of academic capability.

  2. Preparing lesson plans and notes.

  3. Teaching street-connected students according to their educational needs in an informal setting.

  4. Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of students.

Naivasha Children’s Shelter is seeking to fill the position of a social worker as detailed below;

Job title: Social worker  

Reporting line: Administrator

Purpose

To ensure efficient and effective day to day running of social activities in the project and the welfare of all beneficiaries (direct and indirect) are well observed. This should be done in line with Shelter policies on beneficiary protection and care within the delegated authority of a results based management framework.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  1. Maintain up to date office files for all boys at Naivasha Children Shelter.

  2. Compile and take the monthly returns for the home to the Sub County Children Officer on time and without fail.

  3. Ensure the respective Sub County Children Officer and other involved parties have up-to-date information and requested reports on the boys.

  4. Conduct home/school visits for reintegrated boys and update the administrators and write reports on the same.

  5. With the guidance and approval of the Administrator, rescue and rehabilitate boys in the streets as described by the Naivasha Children Shelter’s Rescue and Rehabilitation Manual.

  6. Create and maintain relationships with stakeholders in a professional manner.

  7. Advocate for family based care in the local community, alongside the administrator and directors. Create useful tools to desensitize people about foster care and other types of alternative family care.

  8. Work with local authorities and extended family members of beneficiaries to promote family rescued boys to prepare for reintegration.

  9. Conduct counsel sessions to children, parents and extended family members to enhance rehabilitation and reintegration.

  10. Recommend temporary foster care and advise foster or adoptive parents.

  11. Work closely with the Project Officer to ensure smooth running of Family Empowerment and School Mentorship programs.

  12. Prepare annual and monthly work plans as well as progress reports for the social department in conjunction with other departmental staff

  13. Perform any other duties assigned by the Administrator.

 

Minimum Requirements and experience

  • Diploma in Social work or related field.

  • Computer literacy: working knowledge of MS office required;

  • Experience in capacity building which includes facilitation of community-based training and awareness

  • Good knowledge of children rights and abuse prevention

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

  • No less than 2 years previous work experience,
